TAG #27: The Fictional Boyfriend Tag

Hello guys !

We all love our books over here, right? So from fangirl to fangirl/boy, I must confess that I have way too many fictional crushes. And you probably do too. They’re my babies, my precious little things that I love more than those creatures called real people (WHAT ARE THOSE?) Anyway. When I saw the Fictional Boyfriend tag, I thought this would be the perfect occasion to display my babies to you all. AND DON’T YOU DARE STEAL THEM. They’re mind. But we can share, if you’re nice enough.

I wasn’t tagged for this one per say BUT when I saw it in Cristina‘s blog @ My Tiny Obsessions blog back in February hmm.. I while back I just had to do it but the problem back then is that I just started collecting boyfriends. But now that this year is almost at an end, I have more than enough to fill these categories.

1. Most romantic boyfriend

I’d have to stick to Cristina’s answer on this one. Jem Carstairs from The Infernal Devices is probably the most romantic character I’ve ever read about and I don’t think anyone can top him from that matter. The way he expresses his love, with words and gestures and even music is so precious *swoons*. I can’t help but love him.

2. Dark and moody bad boy with a good side

Mmm… Maybe Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows? Like he’s most definitely dark and moody. Darkest and moodiest. And he definitely has a good side which he doesn’t show. BUT IT’S THERE. Somewhere deep. Very deep. He’s a bit tricky because he’s scarred and has a traumatic past and his coping mechanism would make it very hard to be his girlfriend. But I love him. And I believe in his good side so we’ll make it work.

3. Paranormal boyfriend

Patrick from The Catastrophic History of You and Me. He’s dead and a ghost now so that technically counts as a paranormal boyfriend right? I say it does. Plus, I don’t have any other choice because I don’t date vampires, werewolves and the sort. (The Picture is exactly how I imagine him)

4. Boyfriend you want to tame

Why would you go out with him if it is to tame him. pfft! *nasty stare* Though one that is definitely tamable is Luka Wolfe from Wolf by Wolf, he is A LOT. He has a big personnality, a big mouth and kind of the definition of a bad boy BUT all of that makes him what he is so I’m not sure I’d want to tame him. He’s just so darn sexy and funny and I don’t want to risk taking that away.

5. Boy you friend zoned

Kell Maresh from the Shades of Magic trilogy. Don’t get me wrong I ADORE HIM but the thing is that I love Lila even more so if he’s hers I’m not touching him. Plus, I don’t really see him as a boyfriend. THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT A FRIENDZONE IS, FADWA!! Darn it.

6. Your soulmate

Carswell Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles. AMAGAAAAD !! He really is my soulmate and I love him beyond words. He’s like the male version of me, he likes to stay as much away from feelings as it is physically possible, he’s sarcastic BUT he cares so much about his people even if he’s not great at showing it. Add to that the fact that he’s hella sexy and handsome. Yup. GIMME.

7. Boyfriend you want to elope with

Levi from Fangirl. He’d make an AMAZING husband. He’s so protective and caring, gentle and sweet. *swoons* and I can definitely see him being great with kids. Got carried a little bit too much there. Oops.

8. Boyfriend you’d venture anywhere with

Josh from Isla and the Happily ever After. He is the cutest thing that ever crossed this earth. He’s an artist and likes to explore the world, so I’m sure he’d take me to some beautiful places and show me things that I would probably glance over otherwise.

9. Boyfriend you’d want to be stranded on a desert island with

Oscar from I’ll Give you the Sun. I wouldn’t mind being stranded with him forever. Huh. Not at all. WHO WOULD THOUGH? He’s so dreamy and resourceful, I’m sure I wouldn’t starve and he’ll maybe even find a way to get us out of there.

10. Most badass boyfriend

I DON’T KNOW, THIS IS TOO MUCH PRESSURE FOR ME? A lot of them are badass and I can’t choose. Don’t make me. You can’t make me. Deal with it.

TAG #21: The Mid-Autumn Festival Tag

Hello guys !

You know how there are some tags that you HAVE to do in a certain time frame or else it would be ridiculously unfit to do them? Well, this is one of them. It literally is called the Mid-autumn Festival Tag so it is now or never. I must admit that I have a moutain of other tags that is threatening of crumbling on me and that I will eventually get to, but a girl has to set her priorities straight and in this case prioritize the tag that has a set time to be done. Enough ramblings let’s get on with the tag.

This tag was created by Tinka @ The Crazy Reader and I was tagged by the lovely Kat @ Life and Other Disasters. You should definitely check out her blog, it’s awesome ans she recently started sharing really interesting insights about her writing experience. DO IT!

Book Cover = Goodreads page

x1Name a Book with Family Goals.

Jandy Nelson - The Sky is Everywhere

I think the obvious answer for this one would be the Weasleys from Harry Potter, I freaking love that family and how they all work so well together. But one family that I hold dear to my heart is Lennie’s family from The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson. Yes, it is more on the inconventional side because it is just Lennie, her uncle and her grandma but what’s goals is their love for each other and how close they are despite drifting away from each other for a bit because of everything they went through.

x2Name a Book with a Werewolf*

*this festival has nothing to do with werewolves; the only common things is the full moon.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book solely about Werewolves, they’ve never really been my thing (If you forget about that time when I was obsessed with Teen Wolf). And the only series that I can think about that has them besides the obvious Twilight, is The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare which I love and also can we talk about how big of a sweetheart Luke is? I must admit, that isn’t something I would’ve ever imagined myself saying about a werewolf.

x3Name a Kind of Food in a Book that you Wish was Real.

Mmm… All of the candy from Harry Potter (I’m sure I can answer every and each of these questions with that series, but I won’t). It seriously was my dream growing up to be part of that world -and it still is to be honest- and half of the reason was all the candy that sounds so yummy.

x4Name your Favorite Creature from a Book.

I would say Dobby from Harry Potter (See what I was talking about?) He is so amazing and brave and hilarious. I know you love him too, who doesn’t to be honest? He’s awesome!

x5A Character that Makes a Significant Change to the Plot Since he/she did something too many times

Well, I have the perfect answer for that one. Love for the Romantics by Leah Konen. I’ll have to say that most of the “pushes” she made had bad results but she kept on trying until she made things right and the thing that was supposed to happen happened. The thing that she did too many times is getting involved in Gael’s faith.

x6 Name a Toy or Game in a Book that you Liked to Read About.

Morgan Matson - Since you've been gone

Does the To-do list in Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson count as a game? I think it does and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about all the adventures Emily embarked in because of the items in that list.

x7Name a Book which you Feel is the Best to Read in Autumn.

Rainbow Rowell - Fangirl 2

I’d have to agree with Kat on this one because to me Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is the perfect Autumn read. I read it in Winter last year and if it wasn’t still so vivid in my brain, I would be reading it right now cuddling up in my bed with a mug of Hot Chocolate and lots of feels and fangirling over how cute and sweet Levi is. Fun fact: Levi is my first ever book boyfriend, so that book holds a special spot in my heart.

x8Name your Favorite Festival in a Book

I’m 100% sure I’ve never read a book with a Festival in it soo I don’t have an answer for this one. Now that I think about it, is there a book with some kind of Festival in it, out there in the world? If you know any, tell me! I’m really curious to know.

Tag #15 : Mid-year Book Freak out Tag

Hello guys !

It’s been forever since I last did a tag *gasps* ALMOST 2 MONTHS. That list of tags awaiting isn’t getting any shorter, so what does a girl do as a remedy to that? She does a tag she wasn’t tagged for. That’s right people ! I’m rebellious like that.

TAGS (18)

You know, they say that we’re more that half-way through 2016, but I don’t see it. I really don’t, is it February? Is it March? *Checks calendar and faints* LORD HAVE MERCY !! July is here and I can’t get over how fast this year has passed, it seems like the older I get the faster years go by and I am NOT ready to adult. Not now, not ever. So, in the midst of this -not so- mild freak-out, I decided to do a fitting tag, which is the Mid-year book freak out tag, for which, as I said previously, I wasn’t tagged but Lauren @ Wonderless reviews said that anyone can do it, so I jumped on the occasion because I am a good friend, I decided to fulfill her wish. This tag was created by Chami @ ReadLikeWildFire and Ely @ Ely Jayne. It’s where we look back at (and freak out over) the books we’ve read during the past six months. So let’s jump right into it :

Click on the book title to go to the Goodreads page.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2016

You know I can’t choose. If you’ve been following me for a while you know that there are 2 books I cannot for the life of me shut up about and those are I’ll Give you the Sun by Jandy Nelson (Review) and Wolf by Wolf (Review) by Ryan Graudin. READ THEM. I just can’t get over the both. I. CAN’T.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in  2016

A Gathering of Shadows Final

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E.Schwab. I’m still in the middle of it but I’m already in love (maybe by the time this post goes up I’ll be done with). I think I can eat up anything that woman writes, it is SO GOOD. And come on, it has Thief/Pirate/Smart-ass Lila in it and I can’t get enough of her witts.

New Release you haven’t read yet but you want to

There are two -again- that I cannot wait to read. One of which I already have and I plan to buddy read in a couple of weeks, it is And I Darken by Kiersten White. The other one, is one that I recently learnt about but that I cannot wait to get since, it is Juliet takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera.

Most Anticipated Books for the Second Half of the year

SO MANY. I’m trying to catch up on backlist titles more than keeping up with new releases, is it a wise thing to do? I don’t know ! Is it working for me? Yes ! Although I am finding it harder and harder to resist ALL THE BOOKS that are coming out. It is just too much for my grabby hands to behave. Here are some : When Michael Met Mina by Randa Abdel-Fattah, Labyrith Lost by Zoraida Cordova, Three Dark Crowns by Blake Kendare, Gemini by Sonya Mukherjee.

Ryan Graudin - (#2) Blood for Blood

But the mother of all anticipations is the one animating me for Blood for Blood by Ryan Graudin which is the sequel to Wolf by Wolf, I get SO excited/nervous/dead just thinking about it. I NEED IT NOW.

Biggest Disappointment

Alwyn Hamilton - Rebel of the Sands

You’ve probably seen this one coming because my review for this book just went up a few days ago, it is Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton. There was a time when I was very excited to read this book but as time went by and I started seeing negative reviews surging, my excitement for it went down as well as my hopes. And though I suspected I wouldn’t enjoy it, I still gave it a go and my suspicions became a reality.

Biggest Surprise

The girl in 6E

The Girl in 6E with no doubt. This is one sick, twisted, crazy book and I loved it. It made me doubt my sanity because I found myself rooting for a bloody murderer. I went into it with very low expectations because that is not what I normally read and it was a complete surprise when I enjoyed it so much. I hope to read the sequels soon.

Favorite New Author (Debut or new to you)

  • Ryan Graudin
  • Jandy Nelson
  • V.E Schwab

Newest Fictional Crush

Mmm … Let me think about it. Oh I KNOW ! Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles. I love him so so so much. He’s witty and hilarious and just perfect. I can’t help but giggle each time there’s a scene with him in it, even the most dramatic ones. Yep.

Newest Favorite Character

There’s Yael from Wolf by Wolf but I guess that one was at the beginning of the year so the most recent one is Lila from A Darker Shade of Magic. Oh boy ! She’s amazing. They both are actually, the two most kickass protagonists I’ve read about.

Book that made you cry

Jojo Moyes - Me Before You

Pft ! Obvious one. I teared up at the epilogue of Me Before you by Jojo Moyes because that letter was just my undoing. I just seem to have a soft spot for heart-wrenching letters like that because this is definitely not the first time something like that gets me. (The book that made me sob is I’ll Give you the Sun but I already used that one and I don’t want you to kill me, but I HAD to bring it up, didn’t I?)

Book that made you happy

Rainbow Rowell - Fangirl 2

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I’m late to the party I know, everyone, their mother and their dog read it a couple years ago, but hey, I just got back on track. That book made me so happy with all its quirkiness, fangirling and awkwardness.

Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation

I sadly haven’t watched any yet but I’ve made a list throughout the year and what a list indeed ! Summer has just began so I intend to catch up on them all and then decide which one I like best but for now, I have none to talk to you about.

Favorite Post you have done this year

Unpopular (7)

I think that it might be the one from Monday, “My diverse reading – Or lack there of” . It wasn’t only a post but also a shift in my own reading habits which makes it kind of very personal but I had to share it with you guys. And your responses have been wonderful with some of you relating, others giving advice, it just made me tremendously happy.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve bought this year

Claudia Gray - (#1) A Thousand Pieces of You

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray. I’m seriously in love with that book’s cover and I can’t wait to dive into it. It’s been judging me for a couple months now waiting to be picked up but it’s just … SO MANY BOOKS.

What book do you need to read by the end of the year

Adam Silvera - More happy than not

You mean every book ever? Yeah that’s why I thought ! But one that I’ve been meaning to read for quite a while now and that I want to get to before the end of the year is More Happy than Not by Adam Silvera. I heard so many great things about it and I can’t wait to see for myself what it holds inside. Though I really need to get into every book on this list and start -almost- every series on this one.

I Tag :

Reg @ She Latitude

Shealea @ That Bookshelf Bitch

Astra @ A Stranger’s Guide to Novels

My Book File

Michelle @ The Writing Hufflepuff

And whoever wants to join the freak out party.

Ps: If you’ve already done it or you just don’t feel like it, I’m sorry just ignore my tag hah.

That’s it until next time.

If you did the tag, go ahead and leave the link in the comments so that I can check it out.

Hope you enjoyed, write to you soon.

Top 5 Wednesday #13 : Good Surprises !

Hello guys !T5W

So today is Wednesday, this means that it is time for me to do another T5W.  It is a weekly feature created By Lainey @ Gingerreadslainey with a different theme each week. It is hosted now by Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes. For more information, you can check the Goodreads group.

Once again this week, I’m not doing the assigned theme. This week’s topic is Authors you’d like to meet at BEA and Bookcon and since I’m not attending either any time soon and I’m quite frankly too lazy to go through the lists of authors who are going to be there, I chose to do an old one.

This week’s theme is: BOOKS YOU DIDN’T EXPECT TO LIKE.

P.s: The covers are direct links to the GoodReads pages.

Paulo Coelho - The Alchemist

This was my first even “grown-up” read which I picked up for the first time at 13. My mom had randomly bought it and it was sitting around the house untouched so I read the blurb and it intrigued me. I didn’t think I’d be into the whole philosophical, introspective search of self theme but I ended up loving it and I read it 2 more times since then. I also picked up the majority of Paulo Coelho’s novels some of which I loved/liked and some I didn’t.

R. Mead - (#1) Vampire academy

I wasn’t in the Vampire/Werewolf phase when I picked this one up. Honestly, I never was into that whole thing but I had heard a lot of good things about this series. When I read the first book,  I wasn’t impressed and doubted I would pick the second one up but I read reviews that said that it got better with each book so I decided to give it another chance and didn’t regret it one single bit.

This one I just wanted to read before watching the movie. I went into it with very very low expectations because I didn’t see how a story about a man stranded on Mars could be anything but boring I even started off not liking it at all, but once I got used to the writing and all the science, I LOVED IT. Mark Watney is the most hilarious character I’ve ever read.

Rainbow Rowell - Fangirl 2

So, I read Eleanor and Park first and though I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it either (I’m rereading it right now and enjoying it a lot more… Weird!) which made me very reluctant to pick another book by RR again. I’m glad I did, I absolutely loved this one and I’m planning to read a lot more of her in the near future.

Well, well, well, what do we have here? One of my absolute favorite books which I thought I would hate because historical fiction. I have this book to thank for my love of that genre and more specifically WWII. After finishing it, I was broken and I simply needed more of that time.

 That’s it until next time.

What are some books that surprised you?

Hope you enjoyed, write to you soon.

Top 5 Wednesday #9 : It’s raining man !

This week’s theme is: RAINY DAY READS

P.s: The covers are direct links to the GoodReads pages.

In general, on days when the sky is pouring I like to read contemporary. Yep. That’s me. And not whatever contemporary I can get my hands on, mind you. It has to be on one of the extremes of the emotional scale. The book has to either leave me with warm fuzzy feelings inside or leave me heartbroken, snorting and ugly crying ’til the late hours of the night (Okay, I’m not a big crier, so I might be exaggerating, but you get the point). Here are some of the books that fit one of the descriptions above :

Antonia Michaelis - The Storyteller.jpg

Oh man ! This book is so dark and twisted but it is SO good. It is mysterious, creepy and mostly tragic. I read it in the beginning of this years and I remember being so sad and depressed at the end of it. Perfect for those rainy days when your mood matches the sky.

Marc Levy - Seven Day for an Eternity.jpg

This is a  “Love conquers all” type thing. I read it in the perfect setting actually. It was a gloomy winter afternoon, I was buried in my bed under a ridiculous amount of blankets. And I liked it for what it was. A quick, easy, fun read.

Jojo Moyes - Me Before You

Need I explaining this one? Everyone knows it, everyone loves it. (almost? I yet have to read a negative review) It is a heartwarming/heartbreaking read. Yes, it does both. No, it doesn’t make the hard parts bearable. Yes, you are still going to cry. No, it’s not going to go easy on you. If you’ve been following me for more than 2 weeks then you already know my thoughts on it, if not here they are.

Rainbow Rowell - Fangirl 2

AAAAGH ! I can’t keep myself from fangirling everytime I mention this book (More fangirling over here). It is just so frigging cute. It holds a really special spot in my heart and I don’t have a reason for it, it just does. Or do I ? Can Levi be enough of a reason ? Yes? Well I say that he can because I can do whatever I want.  *Sticking my tongue out like a mature person*

Markus Suzak - The Book Thief

You were warned my friends ! I told you many many times that I am obsessed with this book and that it wasn’t the last time you were going to hear about it from me. If you haven’t read it, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ? Just go pick it up right now, for heaven’s sake or I’ll hunt you down. I will find you. And I will make you sit and read it.

That’s it until next time.

What are some books that you love to read on rainy days ?

Hope you enjoyed, write to you soon.

Top 5 Wednesday #7 : Buzz Words !

Hello guys !T5W

So today is Wednesday, this means that it is time for me to do another T5W.  It is a weekly feature created By Lainey @ Gingerreadslainey with a different theme each week. For more information, you can check the Goodreads group.

This week’s theme is: BOOKS YOU DNF

So, I only did not finish one book in my life which was The Man who Wanted to be Happy by Laurent Gounelle. The reasons I don’t DNF books are mainly :

  1. I’m pretty good at picking up books I know I’ll enjoy
  2. I’m very patient with books even when I don’t like them
Since, this is nothing even close to a list, I chose to revisit a theme that was done before I joined the meme, which is : BUZZ WORDS
“A buzz word is a word that, when you hear it used to describe a book, you can’t help but go running to get said book.”
The Book Thief (Art: Rudy Steiner)
That period fascinates me so much. I could read about it endless amounts of times without ever getting tired or bored of it and that’s because so many things went down in that time and there are so many sides of the same stories that it is hardly ever the same thing.
A Darker Shade of Magic (Art: Victoria Ying)
I think this is a universal one. There’s just something about time travel that pulls me like a magnet. Whenever I hear about a book with some sort of time-traveling in it, I mark is as to-read in Goodreads. That might be the reason why that shelf is growing exponentially, Oups?
Fangirl (Art: ?)
Best-kind-of-love-stories you mean ? I love them so so so much, because if you ask me, those are the most realistic. We get to see and experience the different stages of the relationship from its very beginning, watching the characters get to know each other, fall in love with the little things as we fall in love along with them. Amazing experience.
The Lunar Chronicles (Art : Anailui)
It could be any kind of retelling. Of any fairytale that exists out there. You name it, I want it. I gotta have it. I just love them so much because I am a fairytale junky and getting to read my favorite ones over and over and over again in different timelines, different places, with different characters is just the best thing in the world.
24a04a6960519d44c35f66a130aeb19a.jpgThe Infernal Devices (Art: Smitth)
Main reason I fangirl about any book EVER. Haha. I’m a sucker for solid friendships but those between two boys make me swoooon *-*. It is just so endearing to see them care about each other so much and you can see it in their actions not necessarily in spoken words.

That’s it until next time.

What are your favorite Buzz words ?

Hope you enjoyed, write to you soon.

TAG #5 : Dim Sum book tag

Hello guys !

Today I’m back with a tag that is a little overdue (Oups ! Sorry haha). It is the Dim Sum book tag.  Dim sum is a style of Chinese cuisine whereby food is served in small (tapas-like) portions and is common during yum cha (which literally means: drinking tea). This tag is inspired by good company and good eats.

The tag was created by JoeyThoughts and Afterthoughts and Jenna @ Reading with Jenna. And I was tagged by the lovely Raquel @ Rakioddbooks. Thank you so much for tagging me !

The rules :

Here are some rules to devour this tag:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site
  • Devour dim sum and answer the tag question
  • Tag five others to join your round table for some dim sum fun
  • Food coma
Let’s do this :

For me, that was the Divergent Trilogy. I loved the first book, but as I started reading the second book I quickly got annoyed and was done with ! It’s not that I hated it, far from that, it was just a big drop from where I was standing after finishing Divergent.

Veronica Roth - (#1) Divergent  Veronica Roth - (#2) Insurgent  Veronica Roth - (#3) Allegiant

The Siren by Kiera Cass ? I must admit I haven’t read it yet haha ! But it is the first one that came to mind when I read the question so I’m sticking with it. Hopefully I can get to it soon, it has a Little Mermaid feel to it and who doesn’t like some childhood memories flooding back ?
Kiera Cass - The Siren

I would have to go with Yael from Wolf by Wolf which I recently added to my favorites (Review here). She is so amazing and strong. What she’s going throught and what she must accomplish have led her to do some bad and questionnable things but it is all for a greater cause. And I just think she is the most badass character ever !!!

Ryan Graudin - (#1) Wolf by Wolf

The storyteller by Antonia Michaelis. If you want to enjoy this book to the fullest do yourself a favor and don’t read the blurb. I didn’t. I read the blurb after reading the book and I facepalmed myself so hard it hurt haha ! That blurb is just ridiculous.

The catastrophic history of you and me by Jess Rothensberg. Well that was a mouthful. But more seriously, I adored this book ! You think it is just going to be cute and fluffy all the way but it deals with grief, betrayal, coming out etc. (Review here)

Jess Rothenberg - The Catastrophic History of You and Me

The selection by Kiera Cass. Some hate it, some love it. I actually stand in the middle. The story has nothing special but it is quite addictive.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I received it a very VERY long time ago and I remember that my friend had put on extra efforts on the wrapping.

I’ve been putting off doing this tag because of this question and then I gave up. I just DON’T KNOW ! I usually don’t like clichés, and if any of you have read books where they are done well please share ! So that I can check them out.

Fangirl + Hot chocolate. Because they both give me the same warm cozy feeling. Yep. I don’t need to elaborate.

  Rainbow Rowell - Fangirl 2  33475d171b12b9d8cbb726f64a28ded0

(The picture is not mine, I wish snifff !)

A little something different by Sandy Hall. It is just so pretty, I want to keep running my fingers over it *-* ! By the way, this is another one I yet have to read.

Sandy Hall - A Little Something Different.jpg

Whatever bag I’m carrying that day does the trick.

I tag :

Ashleigh @ AFrolicThroughFiction

Jesalin @ JBelksBooks

Emma Louise @ EmDoesBookReviews

Anna @ MyBookishDream

Michelle @ TheWritingHufflepuff

Ps: If you’ve already done it or you just don’t feel like it, I’m sorry just ignore my tag hah.

That’s it until next time.

This tag has been a delight !

Hope you enjoyed, write to you soon.

Little peek #2 : February 2016

Hello guys !

February has gone by really fast and it is already time for another little peek aka this month’s wrap up. This month was impressively good, I loved all seven of the books I read and I’m super happy about it. As per usual, the titles are direct links to the Goodreads pages.

Here are the books, in the order I read them :

A. R. Torre - The girl in 6EOh my god ! What a thriller !

This book was a bit out of my comfort zone and I was pleasantly surprised by it. It made me feel all kind of emotions that I didn’t think I could feel reading an erotic thriller with a protagonist who has urges to kill.

The ending had me curious to read the rest of the series because it was too good to be true.

You can find my review here

4.5 stars

“Others letting you down is ice cream and cookies compared with the rejection of your own soul. I don’t know what is sadder, expecting myself to fail or being too scared to dream of success.”

Cassie Clare - (#4) City of Fallen Angels.jpgThis books was the slowest of the series. Not that minded, I loved it still.

I really appreciated having so much of Simon, seeing everything through his eyes, having him figure out the whole vampire thing.

But then, came the end of the book and Cassandra Clare left it on a HUMONGOUS cliffhanger and the worst thing is, I had to read another book before getting to City of Lost Souls. Agh! I was so frustrated.

“But I watch my brothers give their hearts away and I think, Don’t you know better? Hearts are breakable. And I think even when you heal, you’re never what you were before.”

Jess Rothenberg - The Catastrophic History of You and MeI loved this book so much ! It was amazing.

It deals with the grief of death, not only the one that the family and friends of the deceased go through, but in this novel, it is about Brie’s (The dead girl) grief and all the stages that she went through to find peace in her little slice of heaven and maybe love to.

This book did something inside of me, it left a mark in ways I wasn’t expecting.

“You can obsess and obsess over how things ended—what you did wrong or could have done differently—but there’s not much of a point. It’s not like it’ll change anything. So really, why worry?”

Cassie Clare - (#5) City of Lost Souls.jpgCan I make a confession real quick ? I LOVE Sebastian ! He is so smart and vicious ! First villain I ever loved. On the other hand he cannot help who he is and that makes him all the more precious in my eyes.

Okay so, most of this book was more strategy and plotting the destruction if the world than action and fight and battle but it still was excting. That being said, the end made my head spin from all the swords, the bows and good guys and bad guys. AND GLORIOUS.

“Iz,” Alec said tiredly. “It’s not like it’s one big bad thing. It’s a lot of little invisible things. When Magnus and I were traveling, and I’d call from the road, Dad never asked how he was. When I get up to talk in Clave meetings, no one listens, and I don’t know if that’s because I’m young or if it’s because of something else. I saw Mom talking to a friend about her grandchildren and the second I walked into the room they shut up. Irina Cartwright told me it was a pity no one would ever inherit my blue eyes now.” He shrugged and looked toward Magnus, who took a hand off the wheel for a moment to place it on Alec’s. “It’s not like a stab wound you can protect me from. It’s a million little paper cuts every day.”

Rainbow Rowell - Fangirl 2.jpgZFDJSLGNV  SLJDKJGLSV DFKJSLQ *-* ! This book made me fangirl so hard ! It was beyond cute, and  I loved how relatable and real it was.

And LEVI ! I doubtlessly fell in love with him, that guy is the dream, he’s the most realistic book character I’ve ever read (All of them actually) .

I can go on and on and on all the day, but that’s what a review is for. You can find it right here.

“Happily ever after, or even just together ever after, is not cheesy,” Wren said. “It’s the noblest, like, the most courageous thing two people can shoot for.”

Cassie Clare - (#6) City of Heavenly Fire.jpgOH MY GOD ! This book took me so long to finish but it was beyond amazing ! I loved every single bit of it.

THE EPILOGUE THOUGH !!! That thing was perfection, everything wrapped up, no loose ends and it made me appreciate the character development throughout the series of every single one of them. It also mended the pieces of my broken heart which was caused by the last chapters, those were dark times people, VERY dark times indeed !

The thing that stood out to me the most, is how Cassandra Clare’s writing improved with each book, this last one was quite frankly a masterpiece, I just have so many feels !

“I did not make a pie,” Alec repeated, gesturing expressively with one hand, “for three reasons. One, because I do not have any pie ingredients. Two, because I don’t actually know how to make a pie.”
He paused, clearly waiting.
Removing his sword and leaning it against the cave wall, Jace said warily, “And three?”
“Because I am not your bitch,” Alec said, clearly pleased with himself.”

Benjamin Alire Sàenz - Aristole and Dante discover the Secret of the UniverseThis is the first LGBTQ+ novel I’ve ever read and I really enjoyed it. Not really what I expected but it was still an interesting read.

I loved the sides that Ari and Dante brought in each other that no one else could and how good and right they were for each other.

Even though I had some issues with it, I really liked it. You can see my review here.

“I wondered what that was like, to hold someone’s hand. I bet you could sometimes find all of the mysteries of the universe in someone’s hand.”

That’s it until next time.

Fangirl – Nerd meets Love and the Outside World

Rainbow Rowell - Fangirl.jpgTitle : Fangirl

Author : Rainbow Rowell

Publication date : January 30th 2014

Publisher : Pan MacMillan

Genre : YA Contemporary

Synopsis : Cath and Wren are identical twins, and until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they’re off to university and Wren’s decided she doesn’t want to be one half of a pair any more – she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It’s not so easy for Cath. She’s horribly shy and has always buried herself in the fan fiction she writes, where she always knows exactly what to say and can write a romance far more intense than anything she’s experienced in real life.
Now Cath has to decide whether she’s ready to open her heart to new people and new experiences, and she’s realizing that there’s more to learn about love than she ever thought possible …
A tale of fanfiction, family, and first love. (From Goodreads)

Rating: 4.5 stars

She didn’t have words for what Levi was. He was a cave painting. He was the red ballon. “You’re magic” she said.

(No spoilers)

I debated for a moment whether to do this review or not, because I’m basically the last person is the world to read this book but then I decided to do it because I wanted to pour my feelings out.

Let me gather my thoughts and feelings for a second because otherwise I swear I’ll just be screaming and fangirling and swooning until the end of times. I don’t even know where to start.

So, here we go. Cath is a college freshman. Socially awkward and introvert, she has humongous trouble fitting in especially since her twin sister Wren basically abandoned her (I am going to rant more about that later).  But as the days go, she forms an unlikely bond with her roommate Reagan, who is a strong, independent, out-going, big-mouthed girl. Basically, everything that Cath isn’t. I love Reagan so much, she’s so funny and their friendship is amazing, she was kind of a mentor to Cath, being older and more experienced.

a84e128b5e0a39729d805a2a25a09b3c.jpgThen comes Levi. Oh Levi! He puts a big smile on my face with each one of his lines, he’s just so genuine and caring. I love how Rainbow Rowell made him flawed with his receding hairline, his too dark eyebrows, he’s just even more endearing that way. I loved how he wasn’t a jerk, and I think YA novels really lack that “nice guy since the beginning” factor, and I loved even more how he was truly interested in who Cath is and what she does. The evolution of their relationship was heart-warming, how they went from being friends bonding over books, fanfiction and other nerdy goods (Every one of us’ dream, Am I right or am I right?) , to being cutely awkwardly together (the awkwardness mostly came from her), into a strong relationship where everything came naturally.

Let’s talk about Wren for a second. What the hell is wrong with that girl ? For most of the book, I wanted to slap her across the face and back again everytime she opened her mouth. She was so self-absorbed and she embodied the typical college freshman going wrong. She put herself back together by the end of the book but still, I couldn’t get over how bratty she was.

I liked how this book dealt with family issues, they made the whole thing feel even more realistic. The twins dad has some mental health issues and their mom abandoned them when they were eight just to show up ten years later not even trying to be their mother but their friend, Agh! My hate for that woman is deeper than the ocean.

The only thing that bugged me a little was the Simon and Baz excerpts that came up abruptly when she was reading the fanfiction to Levi because I would be so invested in the moment and suddenly it would be cut off and replaced by some Simon and Baz action and I’m like “BRING BACK CATH AND LEVI NOW!”, if I wanted to read about them I would’ve picked up Carry on (which I’ll most certainly do soon), on the other hand I didn’t mind the excerpts at the end of the chapters, those just made me more excited to read Carry on.

This was an amazing read. Simply but beautifully written, I even got some new favorite quotes out of it and the dialogue felt so natural, none of it was forced and everything was something that I actually saw people saying in their daily lives. And the thing that was so reliable to me is how she couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that Levi wanted her, she just made a mental list of everything that was wrong with it, and that’s so me. Even though I am a pretty outgoing person, I am exactly like her in that sense.

Side note: I watched Grease about 2 weeks ago, if I read Fangirl before that, I wouldn’t have got the reference.

Award #1 : We are All Fangirls Around Here

Hello guys !

It is time for a tag, a really cool one actually. As a hardcore reader, I’m a huge fangirl and I want to emphasize on the “huge”. So, thanks a million times Astra @ Astrangersguidetonovels for nominating me. Everyone go check out her blog, it is wonderful !

  • Create a post to accept your award.
  • Answer the questions I have at the end.
  • Nominate between 5-10 book bloggers who you think also deserve this award.
  • Come up with your own 5 questions for your nominees.
Let’s get to it, shall we !

1- Who is your biggest book crush ?

I would say Alec from The Mortal Instruments, it is hopeless I KNOW !! But what can a girl do? I can’t control my feelings.

2- Favorite and least favorite genre and why ?

My favorite is, without any doubt, Fantasy. Because I love discovering new worlds and explore the depth of human imagination when it comes to creating original content. Plus, it is usually action packed, ad who doesn’t like some action ?

My least favorite is Biography, this genre is often very boring and slow and I prefer fast paced books. Unless I’m really interested in the person whose life is narrated.

3- What is your favorite read of 2016 so far ?

City of glass by Cassandra Clare

4- Are you planning to reread a book? If so, what, if not why?

Yes, hopefully The Harry Potter series, and maybe even marathon it because come on ! IT’S HARRY POTTER and it’s been too long

5- Are you a fan of classics? If so, name your favourite classic, if not, why?

I wouldn’t say a fan but I definitely enjoy them. My favorite one is french, it’s called Le dernier jour d’un condamné à mort (The last day of a condemned man) by Victor Hugo, I read it in High school and it stuck with me. I should probably reread that one too.

Now for my questions :

1- What’s your ultimate OTP ?

2- What’s your most hated book trope ?

3- What’s a book character that you have a love/hate relationship with ?

4- What’s a book series you gave up on ?

5- What was your Top3 of 2015 ?

And I nominate :

Seleyia @ Infinitebookreviews

Raquel @ Rakioddbooks

Christina @ Christinasbookparadise

Felicia @ Fellforbooks

Kelsy @ Bookaddictkels

That’s it until next time.

If you’re not tagged and want to do it, go ahead and leave the link is the comments so that I can check it out.
