TAG #36: Mid-year Book Freak-out tag

Midyear book freakout

Hello guys !

Please give me a second to register that half of 2017 has already flown by !!! It can’t be, can it? But yes, it’s already summer, it’s already July and I’ve already read 45 books this year, two of which aren’t on goodreads and one I read twice. I’m actually really proud of how good I’m doing reading wise, reading more books AND better books. Most of the books I read this year are 3.5 stars and up.

Anyway, enough ramblings, I don’t think I was tagged to do this one (if you tagged me, please let me know so that I can mention you in the post) but I did it last year and it was a lot of fun to do so I decided I’d do it again. This tag was created by Chami @ ReadLikeWildFire and Ely @ Ely Jayne.

Title = Goodreads page.

BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2017

YOU CANNOT ASK ME TO CHOOSE JUST ONE. I’ve read so many amazing books this year and narrowing it down to just 3 was actually pretty hard BUT the books that stuck with me the most because they mean something to me on a personal level are:

  • The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury. This is such a breathtakingly beautiful fantasy book. The prose is magical, the world-building fantastic and the romance is the most swoon-worthy. It’s an Aladdin retelling and I highly recommend it. (Review)
  • How to Make a Wish by Ashley Herring Blake. Ho boy did I cry when I read this one, it’s so real and raw and heartbreaking but also hopeful. It deals with important issues like parental emotional abuse, grief and family. I adore it. (Review)
  • When Michael met Mina by Randa Abdel-Fattah. I reviewed this one just last week and I read it pretty recently as well so everything it made me feel is still pretty vivid. It deals with racism, islamophobia as well as unpacking privilege and reading that saddened me angered me but also gave me hope. (Review)

YOUR FAVORITE SEQUEL OF 2017

V. E. Schwab - (#3) A Conjuring of Light

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab obviously. Even though I didn’t give it the full 5 star rating because of reasons you can check out in my review, it was still an epic ending to one of my favorite series ever. The author knows how to write her characters, plot and world-building. They are FANTASTIC.

A NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ BUT WANT TO

A LOT? There are so many I still need to get to, it’s truly ridiculous. I just get distracted with other books and books keep coming out quicker than I can read them and I just need a remote that can pause time until I catch up. Does anyone have one of those for sale? Just to mention a few

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF

Again… A LOT? Pals, these questions are hard but let’s see if I can give you a short list because believe me there are AT LEAST 30 books I’m anticipating, some of which I was lucky to get Arcs of and I will be reading this month and that makes me incredibly happy.

YOUR BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

Adam Silvera - History is All you left me

Please don’t get mad at me for this but… History is All You Left me by Adam Silvera. It’s not that I didn’t like it, I actually enjoyed it and gave it 3.5 stars I believe but I had such high hopes for it (with More Happy than Not being one of my favorite reads last year) that I couldn’t help but feel a bit let down by it. I was bored and a little detached. It’s totally a me problem here, not a book problem. (Review)

BIGGEST SURPRISE OF THE YEAR

Becky Albertalli - Simon vs The homo sapiens Agenda

Simon vs. the Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli which I’ve been actually stalling since it first came out. For some reason unknown to me I thought I wouldn’t like it but it became an instant favorite of mine. It is such a cute, heartwarming read that’s super fast to read and a perfect pick-me-up or to get out of a slump. (Review)

FAVE NEW TO YOU OR DEBUT AUTHOR

Again, I have a few here. DON’T JUDGE ME! I just discovered so many fantastic authors this year and it’s impossible to pick just one. Here are a few:

  • Becky Albertalli
  • Laura Silverman
  • Thea De Salle
  • Stacey Lee
  • Ashley Herring Blake
  • Charlotte Anne Hamilton

YOUR NEW FICTIONAL CRUSH

I don’t really have one? It’s weird but I kind of don’t crush on characters anymore, I’m always like “These are my kids and I must protect them at all costs” even when the characters are older than I am. BUT one that I would die for is Zahra from the Forbidden Wish She’s the Jinni in the story and such a beautiful, brave and flawed character. I couldn’t help but adore her throughout the whole story.

NEW FAVORITE CHARACTER

Molly from the Upside of Unrequited, she’s just such a kind, genuine, relatable character who fucks up because it’s normal and I just UGH, I loved reading about her, her wins and struggles so much. I also loved Grace from How to Make a Wish because of her strength, resilience, empathy and capability to love. I love her a lot.

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

Aisha Saeed - Written in the Stars

Written in the Stars by Aisha Saeed. This is I think the book that made me really cry. A couple others made me tear up a bit but this one, wow, I was a full on fountain because of the topics, the events, all the trauma the MC goes through, it’s just awful. I also cried at the ending and how hopeful and “light at the end of the tunnel” it was. (Review)

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

I have two that really stand out. I read Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde a while back and it was the first book this year that made me genuinely happy, I felt like the happiness would burst out of my chest. It just has so much positive representation and both romances are fluffy that you just can’t help but be happy, it’s science, really (Review). The second is The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli, to no one’s surprise really, I love that book beyond what words can express, Molly is just relatable to me and that alone made me happy, add to that how the story unfolds and I am won over (Review).

FAVE BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATION YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR

hehe. hehe. hehehehe. I’ve watched exactly 0 adaptations this year but I WILL… Eventually.

FAVE BOOK POST PUBLISHED THIS YEAR

I’m actually really proud of some of my posts from this year, I’m satisfied with the direction I’ve taken with my blog and how well that translated into these posts. Here are my 3 favorite bookish posts:

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT/RECEIVED

Adam Silvera - History is All you left me 2.jpg

Well I almost exclusively read ebooks so I actually got only 4 physical books this year. The prettiest one was by far History is All you Left Me. It’s just so shiny and aesthetically pleasing. I’m talking about the UK paperback, I actually do not like the US cover that much. I’d take a picture of my copy to show how shiny it is but… it’s 1am.

WHAT ARE THE BOOKS YOU NEED TO READ BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR?

ALL THE BOOKS? I have so many I want to read before the year ends that just thinking about them stresses me out haha. But here are a few:

That’s it until next time.

Hope you enjoyed, write to you soon.

TAG #35: The Shocker Book Tag

The Shocker

Hello guys !

It’s been SO long since I did a tag *counts* almost 3 MONTHS. And it was a nice break to be quite honest because they were all starting to sound the same to me and I started running out of books at the rate in which I was doing them (Once a week. Yes that’s a lot). I’m back to doing them, although this time I’ll do them once a month or even less than that. It depends.

Also, sorry for the abrupt hiatus this week, I was planning on staying on schedule but our WiFi shut down last Wednesday and the technician didn’t bother showing his face until a week after that (this past Wednesday) after my dad threatened to cancel the contract (which he’s still going to do). Anyway, that’s the story of how I missed two posts this week.

Back to the tag. This time I’m doing the Shocker Book Tag for which I was tagged by Cris @ My Tiny Obsessions. Thanks girl !

Title = Goodreads page.

A BOOK YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO LOVE BUT ENDED UP HATING

benjamin-alire-saenz-the-inexplicable-logic-of-my-life

The Inexplicable Logic of my Life by Benjamin Alire Saenz. I mean, the story itself I liked, but wow, waaay too many issues for me to enjoy it so I actually ended up disliking it a lot because of all the cringing I did and how it infuriated me.

A BOOK YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO HATE BUT ENDED UP LOVING

Sabaa Tahir - (#1) An Ember in the Ashes

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. I KNOW. I KNOW. Why on earth would I think that? But it just didn’t sounds like the kind of book I’d love but OH BOY I KNEW NOTHING. I just finished this one a couple of days ago and it’s now one of my favorites ever. I’m obsessed, I can’t stop thinking about it and I made a Pinterest board for it. That’s how committed I am.

A BOOK FROM A GENRE OR INCLUDING A TROPE YOU GENERALLY DON’T LIKE THAT YOU LOVED

Whitneey Gardner - You're Welcome Universe.jpg

You’re Welcome, Universe by Whitney Gardner. I generally HATE the betraying bestfriend trope but I loved how it was done in this book because while the MC was betrayed by her so called bestfriend she met someone else and she was awesome. I loved how that situation was used to shed light on toxic friendships.

A COVER THAT TOOK YOUR BREATH AWAY (CAN BE FOR GOOD OR BAD REASONS)A CHARACTER WHO YOU HATED AT FIRST BUT YOU GREW TO LOVE

Stacey Lee - Under a painted Sky

Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee. JUST LOOKIT, it’s so stunning and I just can’t stop staring at it. All the colors look so good together and it captures the vibe of the books so well. Okay but the READ. THIS. BOOK. It’s as stunning as the coverand I just… don’t even have words for how beautiful it is. I love it. I love it. I love it. My review will be up soon so keep an eye out if you want more coherent thoughts.

A BOOK WHICH YOU ARE SHOCKED IF ANYONE HATES

Jen Wilde - Queens of Geek

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde. I mean I yet have to find a person who hasn’t liked this book BUT if anyone ever hates I wouldn’t understand. For the life of me I can’t see what it is about this book anyone could hate. It’s the fluffiest, most feel good book out there right now.

A BOOK THAT IS SO UNDER-HYPED YOU FEEL LIKE THE ONLY ONE WHO’S READ IT AND YOU WOULD BE SHOCKED IF SOMEONE TOLD YOU THEY HAVE

yaa-gyasi-homegoing

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. Everyone is sleeping on this book so hard you don’t even know what you’re missing. It’s a gem. One of a kind. Brilliant, raw, beautiful, heartbreaking. AND IT NEEDS TO BE MANDATORY READING. I say it everytime I talk about it but you seriously need to pick it up, you wouldn’t know what you’re missing out on until you actually read it.

A BOOK WITH A PLOT TWIST THAT SHOCKED YOU

Julia Ember - The Seafarer(s Kiss

The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julia Ember. It’s not a twist as much as it is an unexpected turn of events. Which made me laugh but I ultimately felt bad for laughing because it was a bad situation. It was so so well crafted and just Nothing I could’ve thought would happen in those circumstances.

It’s waaay too late for me to think of anyone to tag right now so if you want to do this, DO IT ❤

That’s it until next time.

Hope you enjoyed, write to you soon.

TAG #34: The Anonymous Bookaholics

Bookaholics.png

Hello guys !

Another week has gone by which means it’s time for a new tag. Today I’m choosing to do the Anonymous Bookaholics book tag because I finally made my peace with the fact that I, indeed, am a bookaholic -I’ve always been good with that, this is for dramatic effect only. I was tagged by my lovely best friend Sara @ Freadom Library because she apparently wants me to confess some things. I have nothing to hide *gulps*. Aaaanyway, let’s get this interrogatory over with.

What do you like about buying new books?

Mmm, having material to read? What kind of silly question is this? But seriously, just the thrill of holding a new book, the smell of it is super awesome especially to me, because I rarely get to buy physical books. It’s a very special feeling.

How often do you buy new books?

I don’t know? every month? Although I haven’t bought any this month because I’ve been reading a lot of arcs I was anticipating so that kind of got my urge to buy books under control. Other than that, I get a few e-books a month, I keep an eye out for deals so that I can actually afford more than one book a month -when I want to buy more than one. I am pretty good with buying books actually, I never go overboard.

Bookstore or online book shopping – Which do you prefer?

Bookstores for sure. But since my options there are pretty limited, I resort to online shopping which has more options but is also more expensive. SO. They kind of even out a bit.

Do you have a favorite bookshop?

I don’t even have bookstores to choose from *shrugs*. The struggles of living in a third world country where English isn’t a widely spoken language. There’s a little independent bookstore deep in the city, which I talk about here, but I don’t go there as much as I would like to since it’s pretty far away from where I live and I’m a lazy potato so I never feel like driving that far. I’m also broke. So yeah haha!

Do you pre-order books?

Actually, the first and only time I EVER preordered books is last month when I preordered both History is All you Left me and A Conjuring of Light. I already have the first (which I’m buddy-reading next week) but still waiting for my copy of the later to come. And My patience is running out.

Do you have a monthly book buying limit?

Naaah, as I said, I don’t go overboard with buying books, I mostly stick to deals and the ones I want too desperately to actually wait for deals on them haha. So, yeah I don’t have a limit.

Book buying bans – Are they something for you?

Refer to my last answer. Although if I actually had the funds to buy a lot of books I’d need one because nothing would be able to hold me back. *stares dreamily into the distance*

How big is your wishlist?

HAHAHAHAHA. That’s a funny question. You don’t want to know, because it’s ridiculously enormous. Especially with all the amazing diverse (especially #ownvoices) books coming out this year. It’s unmanageable, it will eat me up alive. It will stomp me. SEND HELP.

Which three books from your wishlist do you wish to own NOW?

Only three? sigh. These three books are definitely the top 3, 2017 releases that aren’t out yet and that I’m in desperate need to read.

Saints and Misfits by S. K. Ali – JUST LOOK AT THAT GORGEOUS COVER. And the MC is a Muslim and Arab-Indian. And I am two of those things which makes me freaking extatic to read it.

Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore – Because duh? Everything that woman produces is pure magic, may it even be a fridge notice. She’s one of my favorite authors, and I can’t wait to read this mesmerizing new story of here.

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton – Go read the synopsis and come back, if you’re not dying to read it too, what is wrong with you? Okay, I’m just kidding but the premise sounds brilliant.

TAG #33: Who Am I ?

dfghjk

Hello guys !

No you’re not dreaming, I’m REALLY posting a tag on a Monday. I have a reason for that though, I couldn’t post my wrap-up today because FEBRUARY IS NOT OVER and I can still get some reading done so March 1st it is, which is Wednesday… the day this post was supposed to go up. So, I simply switched. And voila! You get a tag today. It’s been a little while since I talked about myself, I did the Get to Know me Tag almost a year ago which was just facts about myself BUT for the Who am I Tag, you’ll get to know my deepest darkest secrets, things I don’t even know about myself. Or at least that’s what I think will happen haha. I was tagged by some of my best blogging friends of mine Puput @ Sparkling Letters and Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books. Thank you, lovelies ❤

What is the meaning of my name?

My name is Fadwa (فَدْوَى) which is an Arabic name that means self-sacrifice.

Well, I’m Arab so that explains it. I don’t think my parents chose my name for its meaning. Actually, they didn’t choose it at all, my dad wanted to name me Sara and they couldn’t agree so my aunt took charge and named me, just because she liked the name.

What is my Myer-Briggs personality type? (Link)

Capture d’écran (1).png

People are drawn to strong personalities, and Protagonists radiate authenticity, concern and altruism, unafraid to stand up and speak when they feel something needs to be said. They find it natural and easy to communicate with others, especially in person, and their Intuitive (N) trait helps people with the Protagonist personality type to reach every mind, be it through facts and logic or raw emotion. Protagonists easily see people’s motivations and seemingly disconnected events, and are able to bring these ideas together and communicate them as a common goal with an eloquence that is nothing short of mesmerizing.

I feel like this is pretty accurate. I have a strong personality and I can be pretty persuasive. I don’t know about the eloquence part but I’ll take it haha.

For strengths, it says:

  • Tolerant – True, I can be pretty hot-headed in nature but when it comes to other people’s opinions I can accept anything as long as it doesn’t go against basic human rights.
  • Reliable – Probably? haha I mean, I always have an ear/shoulder/fist to lend to whomever needs it.
  • Charismatic – I don’t know? hahaha.
  • Altruistic – I really just want to be good, see good, do good.
  • Natural Leaders – Yep.

For weaknesses, it says:

  • Overly Idealistic – NOOO. haha! I’m actually a pretty realistic person. The kind that hopes for the best but expect the worst.
  • Too Selfless – Umm? I don’t think so?
  • Too Sensitive – I know for a fact that I am not. I don’t take critique personally.
  • Fluctuating Self-Esteem – YES. I never read something that’s more true.
  • Struggle to Make Tough Decisions – Yeah, I think about the consequences a little too much.

I must admit that this is more spot-on than I expected.

What is my zodiac sign?

I’m a Capricorn but I don’t believe in the horoscope. I still think it’s fun to read it because it sometimes -rarely- get things right and when it doesn’t I like ti joke about the inaccuracy :p

What is my Hogwarts House? (Link)

Like my bestie Willow puts it: I’m a Ravenclaw, obviously! Fun fact is that I identified as a Ravenclaw even before I ever took any test, the Pottermore one confirmed it. Twice. As well as a couple other ones. I guess, there is no escaping it.

What are my Learning Styles? (Link)

  • Visual 5
  • Aural 6
  • Read/Write 2
  • Kinesthetic 7

I have a multimodal learning preference. (VAK)

I can’t say I’m surprised, I have the most trouble learning with reading/writing but experiences are what works best for me, that’s why I have an easier time learning the practical sides of my medical training rather than the theoritical. Listening/Seeing works good as well.

Am I Right or Left Brain Dominant? (Link)

Capture d’écran (2).pngI am VERY left-handed so I expected to be right brained and wasn’t disappointed haha. The thing is every right handed person relies more heavily on their left brain and vice versa. Brought to you by science. You’re welcome.

What is my Blood Type?

I’m an O+ which means I can give blood to all the other positive groups but can only receive from O (either + or -). I’m basically part of the second most screwed group of people if I ever need blood. O- being the universal donor that can only receive from itself, and that makes it the most screwed.

What Career Am I Meant To Have? (Link)

I got Writer. Um? What kind of fresh hell is this haha. This couldn’t be any farther from what I’m working towards. And I don’t write. I used to, but now I really can’t. So according to this test, I’m basically doomed.

Which Divergent Faction Do I Belong In? (Link)

You deviate from the norm. The aptitude test is inconclusive. It cannot determine just one faction for you, Divergent. Your mind is ceaselessly changing. You’re creative, with a strong sense of self, and you have a clear picture of who you are and what you want. You stand out from the crowd. You may pose a threat to the norms of society, but you are unwilling to give into them.

Woot! Woot! I’m divergent and I expected it, because I can’t make up my mind about things. That’s how I role.

What Does My Birth Order Say About Me? (Link)

I am the first Born child and it says I am a natural leader, ambitious, responsible. All of which are true and have been proven by more than one of the tests above haha. It also says that the eldest is kind of a surrogate parent and that was true for me as well. I am 8 years older than my baby sister and I used to feed her, change her, and everything. Yes even as an 8 year old myself. I also like to think that I participate in her education haha because I’m the one she spends the most time with at home.

TAG #31 : The Snack Food Book Tag

dhjk.png

Hello Guys!

The Blog is finally back to its normal schedule which means that the weekly tags are back. Recently, I went through the huge backlog of tags I needed to do and realized that a huge part of them I have no interest in completing anymore (Sorry ❤ that’s what happens when you sit on a tag for too long). Anyway, the ones that still picked my interest will be coming over the next few weeks and I’m not feeling overwhelmed by them anymore haha. This week, it’s the Snack Book Tag for which I was tagged quite a few months back by the ever amazing Kat @ Life and Other Disasters and the lovely Sammie @ Bookshelves and Biros. Thanks girls!

1

riley-redgate-noteworthy

Jordan and Isaac from Noteworthy by Riley redgate for sure. I loved their friendship and was ready to riot if the author ever made them date, but then they happened, they were cute and made me swoon so I was completely won over. They just ave effortless chemistry and amazing banter. I’m usually and easy and fast shipper and I go with whatever the author chooses but here I was so in love with the friendship that it took a bit more convincing that usual. Now I love them. So, so much.

2

Leigh Bardugo - Six of Crows #1

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo always and forever. I need my children, I need to read about them always and forever. I know there is a trilogy is the Grishaverse and another series coming BUT it will never be the same. I need Kaz, Inej, Jasper, Wylan, Nina and Matthias *quiet sob*. I need that duology to be a series of 60 thousand books, that’s how much I love it. I’m pretty sure I’ll be rereading that duology many, many times again.

3

rachel-caine-1-ink-and-bone

I could use the same book again BUT I want to expand your overflowing TBRs so I’m choosing Ink & Bone by Rachel Caine. The characters come from all around the world, from Portugal to Saudi Arabia, going through many other countries. I must admit they are side characters but they still play a big part to the plot.

4

justine-larbalestier-my-sister-rosa

Can I just ask WHY Fruit Bowl stands for unpredictable character? hahaha. Anyway, this would be Rosa from My Sister Rosa by Justine Larbalestier. The girl is a psychopath. Literally, not being ableist here. So, her next move can never be predicted, she like to hurt people in all sneaky, creepy ways she can and it al comes out of nowhere. She find loopholes to promises she makes and rules her family set for her to get and do what she wants. She’s scary.

5

anna-marie-mclemore-when-the-moon-was-ours

When the Moon was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore. That book has my heart, soul and everything else. I LOVE IT SO MUCH and need everyone to read. Seriously, read it. Sam and Miel have the cutest, realest, most precious relationship I have ever read (I have a lot more adjectives for it but I sadly can’t use them all). It also has a calm, whimsical vibe that’s kind of soothing. I don’t know how to explain it, you have to read it, experience it to really get what I’m talking about.

6

A Gathering of Shadows Final

Holland from A Gathering of Shadows by V. E. Schwab. I know he’s the bad guy or whatever, but not really. If you read it, you know what I’m talking about. So, that not really makes me pity him and even like a little bit. I want to know how everything turns out for him in A Conjuring of Light but I’m also very scared. HALP.

TAG #30: The Character Dating Profile

Dating Profile.png

Hello guys!

So, a couple of weeks ago I was on The Orangutan Librarian‘s blog and saw this genius tag so I contemplated whether to do it or not. I decided against it because I have so many tags to do still. Unless. Unless I am tagged for it obviously. And as the marvellous friend that she is, Kat @ Life and Other Disasters tagged me so what can I do? THIS IS DESTINY. But then I had another problem. WHAT CHARACTER DO I CHOOSE? I love so many of them that it is impossible for me to make up my mind. When I told her so, she naturally suggested my baby Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows. And so we begin !

The Rules:

date-1Kaz Brekker (Rietvield is his original name buut he doesn’t use it anymore)

date-217 years old. But Fadwa always forgets that.

date-6Myself… and Inej. You tell her, I slit your throat.

date-10cb05e95b27a59e9235e29da6bd50f485

First of all, I am very attractive. Tall, pale skin, black eyes, black hair trimmed short on the sides. My jaw is so sharp, it can cut diamonds. A wear black business-like clothing and let’s not forget about my crow’s head cane. Oh, I also have 2 tattoos.

date-7Euh… I believe in any God that can help move along my scheming… Or none at all.

date-8Ruling Ketterdam obivously. And making loads and loads of money.

date-3Scheming and seeing my brilliant plans unfold. Torturing people and kicking everyone’s ass. Especially those who underestimate me. (Forgive him, he can be a little cocky)

date-4If I tell you, I’d have to kill you.

date-5-2Inej. Again, tell her and your life is mine to take. (She’s the only one who can get close enough without getting her head snapped)

date-9Her. Me. Conquering the roofs of Ketterdam.

TAG #29: This time Next Year

This time next year.png

Hello guys!

I’m not one to usually make new year’s resolutions or anything, because I never stick to them and that just puts additional pressure on yours truely. And I DON’T LIKE THAT. It has been years since I last done that (seriously, I was like 14 or something). But this tag seemed like the perfect way to write down what are some things I wish to achieve by the end of next year without the added pressure because… well because at the end of the day this is a tag. And also the goals I’m setting are very achievable and things I’m actually very excited about. Anyway, Kendra @ Reads and Treats tagged all December babies so it was calling out my name. So, thank you!

The Rules:

  • Thank the person who tagged you.
  • Write your goals for next year.
  • Write how you’re going to achieve your goals.
  • Tag at least 5 of your blogger friends to share their goals.
  • Then if you wish in 365 days write a post for everyone to see if you have been successful or not!

next-year-1

The way I calculated this number is that I generally read 6 books a month and I want to make at least half of that diverse, which makes it 3 and if I remember anything in maths 3x 12 months = 36. Actually, I’m pretty sure I’ll surpass that number because I reach naturally for these books more now than ever and I have a MASSIVE diverse TBR. So besides some series I really want to get to (which I don’t really know if they are diverse or not) most of my reads will hopefully be diverse.

next-year-2

What I’m talking about here is maybe feminism in books, Muslim representation in books, maybe the correlation between the two, share some of my experiences, etc… And it’s not that I don’t know anything about these things now, I can write these posts, but I just feel like I have a lot to learn, to avoid making certain mistakes, to write more elaborate and more detailed discussions. Don’t worry I’ll still be silly me most of the time, it’s just that some things are important to me and I want to share them with you.

next-year-3

I’ve been naughty. I worked out non-stop for the last 3 years, I was disciplined and passionate about it but since this uni year started, I slacked A LOT until I just stopped going and canceled my gym membership altogether. Now, 80% of that is because I was trying to figure out a way to fit in everything I want and have to do and this including studying, my intership, reading, blogging, drawing, AND working out… and I had to give up something just until I figure it my schedule. The other 20% is because I didn’t like what I was doing anymore. So next year, I plan on going back to doing martial arts and yoga and if the first proves difficult I’ll take up running.

next-year-4

The way I’ll do this is simply by not missing a week or if I do, make up for it by posting twice some other week. And I think that if I start having too many reviews on hold, I’ll start posting them more than once a week. Now, I already have a month worth of reviews, all from my November reads so if that keeps accumulating and it gets worse ahah, I’ll do that.

next-year-5

This is something I am dying to start doing but I’m waiting for the actual journal to get here. I’ve always wanted to write down my thoughts but never knew how to format them. A few week back I stumbled upon some journaling videos on YouTube and I realized that THAT would work for me and that I could do it however I wanted and I don’t have to do it everyday. So yep, as soon as it gets here, I shall start and I’ll make it all artsy and pretty (I hope).

Well, I think those are more than enough haha. I will most definitely write a post in a year to see how everything goes (hopefully, I’ll remember!), how I grow and how some things might change in that time period. Anyway, wish me luck!

TAG #4 : The secret life of a bookblogger

Hello guys !

Today is my blog’s One month Anniversary

18257850.gif

I can’t begin to express how much just one little month of blogging has brought to me. I met some wonderful fellow readers, and got to express my opinions without being afraid of others’ responses. So to celebrate this little symbolic date, I thought it was only fit to do this tag. I was tagged by Brianna @ PaperbackBri , go check out her tag and her blog too, she is really sweet. Thank you Bri for tagging me !

Onto the tag now :

1- How long have you been a blogger?

Mmm … Can you guess how long it’s been by now ? haha. If not, today I’ve completed a month.

2- At what point do you think you will stop?

In a very very VERY long time hopefully. I’d like to say never but that’s not realistic given where my life is headed right now. Probably, when I’ll start working full time at the hospital and being On-call, etc, which luckily isn’t going to happen until a few years from now.

3- What is the best thing?

One word. The community. It gives me a sense of belonging that I love. I think that’s the case for all of us bookbloggers out there. I get to share my opinions, read other people’s opinions, discover new books, new people.

4- What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay?

The pressure that comes sometimes from having unpopular opinions. When I dislike a book that everyone raves about, or when I love a book that everyone hates, I get existential crises haha. But now, it got better, I have unpopular opinions, other readers do too and it’s okay. When such things happen I’m just like: Fuck it !

5- How long does it take to find/create pictures to use?

I’m actually really picky with my picture (Unless they’re just book covers, then it’s a matter of seconds) so I’ll be scrolling for half an hour looking for the right one haha. And if I’m editing them, which doesn’t happen that often, it’s takes up as much time.

6- Who’s your book crush?

Really? REALLY NOW? You just heartlessly want me to answer that. Okay so I’ll choose the most recent add to my collection of book boyfriends : LEVI from Fangirl. I’m not gonna elaborate because I’ll start spinning out of control, K?

7- What author would you like to have on your blog?

The first one my mind went to is J. K. Rowling but I feel like it’s a basic answer so I’ll change it. I’ll go with Markus Zusak. He wrote one of my favorite books of all time : The book thief, and I’d love to chat with him.

8- What do you wear when you write your blog?

My Pajamas. 100% of the time. It seems like I cannot think when I’m wearing regular clothes. Plus I only write at nights and in the weekends, that explains it too.

9- How long does it take you to prepare?

For the reviews, I jolt down all my thoughts whenever I think them, so when after that I have to organize them and get rid of the ones that are irrelevant. That takes approximatively one hour and a half.

For the other posts, it can be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half, it depends.

10- How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?

I love it deeply. As I said before, it gives me a sense of belonging like no other  cyber-community before that. To be honest, I’ve never felt like I belonged to any other community what so ever, but this one just has a hold on my heart *-*. And I also feel that it is really accepting of everyone and anyone who’s willing to commit to it.

11- What do you think one should do to have a successful blog?

Be honest. Don’t be afraid to speak up and show the person that you are and what you think on certain matters, because as I see it, the blogs that do that are MY FAVORITES. Most of the time, those blogs are funny and quirky, and just plain amazing.

12- Who do you tag?

Tag #3 : Burn – Rewrite – Reread

Hello guys !

I was scrolling a few days back down the Reader and found this tag on Beth‘s blog @ Betwixtthesepages and she was tagging EVERYONE, so I decided I would jump on the occasion and do it myself. By the way, you should check out her blog, she is amazing !

The rules :

  • Randomly choose 3 books you’ve read. (Use the ‘random’ option on your Goodreads “read” shelf).
  • For each group of three books, decide which book you’d burn, rewrite, or reread. (A lot like “Kiss, Marry, Kill”).
  • Repeat until you complete three rounds (or five).
I decided to go crazy and do 5 round.
ROUND 1
Paulo Coelho - The zahir    Jodi Ellen Malpas - This Man Confessed    R. Mead - (#3) Shadow Kiss
—                                        Burn                                        Rewrite                      —                   Reread
The Zahir : I enjoyed it (a little) but out of the 3, it’s the one I would burn.
This man confessed : I loooved this book but some scenes made me uncomfortable
Shadow kiss : If I had time to reread a whole series I would.
ROUND 2
Stephenie Meyer - Breaking Dawn    Lauren Oliver - Delirium    Paulo Coelho - Eleven minutes
                                        Burn                                        Rewrite                      —                   Reread
Breaking Dawn: Sparkling vampires? Love triangle that makes me want to throw myself
out the window? No, not my thing.
Delirium : I mildly enjoyed it but I had a lot of issues with it, enough to not continue on with the series.
Eleven minutes : I read it a while back and absolutely loved it, which come to think of it was a little (very) inappropriate considering my age at the time.
ROUND 3
Melissa de la Cruz - Misguided Angel    John Green - The Fault in our Stars    Ann Aguirre - Outpost
–                                        Burn                                        Rewrite                      —                   Reread
Misguided angel : I read it when I was 13 and I remember loving it, I think I would really dislike it if I was to read it now.
The fault in our stars : Just because I don’t want to get my heart broken again.
Outpost : People living underground ? YES. Zombie-like creatures? YES. Nugh said.
 ROUND 4

Laurent Gounelle - The Man Who Wanted to Be Happy    Veronica Roth - Allegiant    Tabitha Sazuma - Forbidden

—                                        Burn                                        Rewrite                      –                   Reread

The man who wanted to be happy : I absolutely hated this book. The only book I ever DNFed.

Allegiant : We all know why. I don’t need to elaborate on this one.

Forbidden : I cried my heart out while reading this book, I wouldn’t want to read it for that exact reason, but out of the 3, this is the one.

ROUND 5

John Green - An Abundance of Katherines     Cassie Clare - (#1) City of Bones    Markus Suzak - The Book Thief

–                                        Burn                                        Rewrite                      —                   Reread

An abundance of Katherines : It was okay. No more.

City of Bones : I want to rewrite it just because the reread category is already taken

The Book thief : This is one of my all time favorites. Markus Zusak is just a word genius.
