TAG #27: The Fictional Boyfriend Tag

Hello guys !

We all love our books over here, right? So from fangirl to fangirl/boy, I must confess that I have way too many fictional crushes. And you probably do too. They’re my babies, my precious little things that I love more than those creatures called real people (WHAT ARE THOSE?) Anyway. When I saw the Fictional Boyfriend tag, I thought this would be the perfect occasion to display my babies to you all. AND DON’T YOU DARE STEAL THEM. They’re mind. But we can share, if you’re nice enough.

I wasn’t tagged for this one per say BUT when I saw it in Cristina‘s blog @ My Tiny Obsessions blog back in February hmm.. I while back I just had to do it but the problem back then is that I just started collecting boyfriends. But now that this year is almost at an end, I have more than enough to fill these categories.

1. Most romantic boyfriend

I’d have to stick to Cristina’s answer on this one. Jem Carstairs from The Infernal Devices is probably the most romantic character I’ve ever read about and I don’t think anyone can top him from that matter. The way he expresses his love, with words and gestures and even music is so precious *swoons*. I can’t help but love him.

2. Dark and moody bad boy with a good side

Mmm… Maybe Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows? Like he’s most definitely dark and moody. Darkest and moodiest. And he definitely has a good side which he doesn’t show. BUT IT’S THERE. Somewhere deep. Very deep. He’s a bit tricky because he’s scarred and has a traumatic past and his coping mechanism would make it very hard to be his girlfriend. But I love him. And I believe in his good side so we’ll make it work.

3. Paranormal boyfriend

Patrick from The Catastrophic History of You and Me. He’s dead and a ghost now so that technically counts as a paranormal boyfriend right? I say it does. Plus, I don’t have any other choice because I don’t date vampires, werewolves and the sort. (The Picture is exactly how I imagine him)

4. Boyfriend you want to tame

Why would you go out with him if it is to tame him. pfft! *nasty stare* Though one that is definitely tamable is Luka Wolfe from Wolf by Wolf, he is A LOT. He has a big personnality, a big mouth and kind of the definition of a bad boy BUT all of that makes him what he is so I’m not sure I’d want to tame him. He’s just so darn sexy and funny and I don’t want to risk taking that away.

5. Boy you friend zoned

Kell Maresh from the Shades of Magic trilogy. Don’t get me wrong I ADORE HIM but the thing is that I love Lila even more so if he’s hers I’m not touching him. Plus, I don’t really see him as a boyfriend. THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT A FRIENDZONE IS, FADWA!! Darn it.

6. Your soulmate

Carswell Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles. AMAGAAAAD !! He really is my soulmate and I love him beyond words. He’s like the male version of me, he likes to stay as much away from feelings as it is physically possible, he’s sarcastic BUT he cares so much about his people even if he’s not great at showing it. Add to that the fact that he’s hella sexy and handsome. Yup. GIMME.

7. Boyfriend you want to elope with

Levi from Fangirl. He’d make an AMAZING husband. He’s so protective and caring, gentle and sweet. *swoons* and I can definitely see him being great with kids. Got carried a little bit too much there. Oops.

8. Boyfriend you’d venture anywhere with

Josh from Isla and the Happily ever After. He is the cutest thing that ever crossed this earth. He’s an artist and likes to explore the world, so I’m sure he’d take me to some beautiful places and show me things that I would probably glance over otherwise.

9. Boyfriend you’d want to be stranded on a desert island with

Oscar from I’ll Give you the Sun. I wouldn’t mind being stranded with him forever. Huh. Not at all. WHO WOULD THOUGH? He’s so dreamy and resourceful, I’m sure I wouldn’t starve and he’ll maybe even find a way to get us out of there.

10. Most badass boyfriend

I DON’T KNOW, THIS IS TOO MUCH PRESSURE FOR ME? A lot of them are badass and I can’t choose. Don’t make me. You can’t make me. Deal with it.

Clockwork Princess

“It was like I saw your soul in the notes of the music. And it was beautiful”

(No Spoilers)

Remember when I told you this trilogy gets better with each book ? I WAS RIGHT ! This book is a phenomenal sequel and finale to Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince. How? Just how can be this be the perfect ending, everything I wanted to happen and break my heart at the same time? After finishing it, I just couldn’t think straight, couldn’t deal with all the feelings it brought up. I couldn’t do anything but crawl into a corner and stare at the ceiling. Well, that and sleep because it was 2am.

This book was equally hilarious and heart wrenching, I was sobbing and snorting at the same time, choking on my tears and laugh, okay I’ll stop, you got my point. One thing I regret A LOT is that I read this after TMI, I SPOILED MYSELF !!!! So I knew a particular thing -Jem related- that was coming miles away from it actually happening, and though it broke me, I feel like it would’ve made more damage if i didn’t expect it. Damn you Fadwa !

What I love about these books is that they always have more to offer, something new to discover. So many things happened throughout this book, it is crazy. So many things were left to be solved in this and it was done amazingly, nothing was rushed, nothing was overlooked, everything fell into place when it was supposed to and that was impressive to read. Tessa grew up to embrace her power and get the most use out of it and you know what I’m talking about ! HOLY SHIT ! I admired her 10 times more for her sacrifice when there was no escaping Mortmain’s claws. Oh and Mortmain, that man is mad, and kind of a genius. But still mad. The kind of mad you never want to encounter in your life. He’s ruthless and there’s no making sense of his action. I loved everything that went down for the main plot to be resolved, each thing that previously happened made sense once the whole picture was drawn.

And don’t even get me started on the little subplots. I ADORED how the love triangle was handled so that everyone got their little share of happiness as well as every reader if you ask me. Will’s family issues too were managed greatly as well AS EVERYTHING ELSE. kfgkjgfkddv  kdhgdl. Okay, sorry I got carried away. And the ships. So many of them. It’s crazy. I loved every little couple/potential couple, they all had chemistry and their little quirks that made them all special.

Oh, and I have a little confession to make: When a certain person got decapitated I was folded in half from laughing. Does that makes me a sadistic? Probably. But my hate for him run deep. Very deep.

THAT LAST CHAPTER. THAT EPILOGUE. I teared up, I really did. They were EVERYTHING. Especially because that epilogue was a mashup between TMI and TID. I was so so emotional reading them. Not only were they the end of this -and let’s be honest, I wasn’t ready- but they also had everything, from heartbreaking, fœtal position inducing moments, to heart-mending, joyful ones.

I won’t bore you with character details. I already talked about them from all the angles, they could’ve been talked about. All I can say is that I really came to love Gideon and Gabriel even though the latter’s intentions were really questionnable. And also, Cecily was a nice addition to the cast, she’s so similar to Will, that their interaction always resulted in funny banter.

To sum things up, this book was so satisfying and I got out of it thinking that family isn’t necessarily blood, family is the people that care about you the most, and you can choose those. It is a little philosophical, I know but it truly what happened throughout the course of the story.

Up there I give you the combination of the three new book spines, and along with that, z lot of feels.

Little Peek #5 : May 2016

Hello Guys !

I’M BAAAACK ! Okay, not really, I still have one more exam to go on Friday, then I’ll spend the week-end hibernating but I’ll officially be back Monday and I cannot wait for it. Two weeks is way too long to be away from you lovely potatoes.

You people are insane for following me ! And I love you so much for it !! This community is truly the best thing that happened to me in a long while and I feel like it changed me in some ways. This journey is just at its beginning for me and I can’t wait to see what more it brings because I’m sure it has a lot more to offer. And also, I met some wonderful people and made great friends that I wouldn’t have know otherwise and that opened my eyes to so many new things too. So, this is has all been positive. One last huge infinite thanks to all of you and without further ramblings let’s get to the wrap-up.

This month being my finals’ month was even more stressful than last, I thought I was going to loose my mind last week (this one is on the easier side). That being said, I still managed to read 8 books and I’m so happy about that number, other than that I read three 5stars books (and DNF one but let’s forget about that minor detail) so it was an amazing reading month. As usual, the titles are direct links to the Goodreads pages.

I buddy-read this one with my twinnie  and fangirling partner Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books and I quite frankly don’t know what to think of it yet. It was so confusing and interesting and addicting all at the same time and I still don’t understand a thing and it drives me nuts every time I start thinking of it. We’re reading the next one in June and I’m so excited for it to happen !

“How odd to be made of flesh, balanced on bone, and filled with a soul you’ve never met.”

If you’ve read my rant you already know how I feel about this .

I don’t want to go to much into it because it’s going to bring up some unwanted feelings and frustrations and my little heart cannot take it at the moment. So, I’ll redirect you to my review and let you see for yourself.

39% DNF

“Daemon pressed his forehead against mine. “Oh, I still want to strangle you. But I’m insane. You’re crazy. Maybe that’s why. We just make crazy together.”

Jandy Nelson - The Sky is Everywhere

Feelings. FEELINGS ARE EVERYWHERE. I still can’t wrap my head around how much Jandy Nelson’s books make me feel, it’s too much. What kind of sorcery does she use? Does anyone know? Can anyone disclose that to me? I’ll pay, promise!

This book was beauty imprinted on paper and I loved it, here’s my review for it.

4 stars

“The sky is everywhere, it begins at your feet.”

Rainbow Rowell - Eleanor & Park

This was not only my first re-read this year but also the first in a long long time AND it was an audiobook.

So… I liked it more that the first time BUT I’m still not okay with that ending, it just frustrates the shit out of me but I love the characters though. As for audiobooks, I think they’re not my thing and I’ll stick to reading reading from now on.

3.5 stars

“Eleanor was right. She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.”

This book has rendered me speechless, freaking emotionally wrecked and in a terrible hangover. I think that I didn’t read a word for 3 whole days afterwards. I just kept thinking about how a single book can break my heart and mend it back together at the same time.

This was the perfect ending to this series. Everything I wanted and more.

5 stars

“Life is a book, and there are a thousand pages I have not read. I would read them together with you, as many as I can, before I die -“

This book was a freaking tornado, I wasn’t bored for one second throughout the whole thing. Shit kept happening so fast and I was sitting here taking it all in, out of breath, a stupid face on.

I loved so much and did a bunch of fangirling because of ships, and SO MANY OF THEM HAVE SAILED. It’s ridiculous. And bonus points for the humour.

5 stars

“Do you think it was destiny that brought us together?”
He squinted and, after a thoughtful moment, shook his head. “No. I’m pretty sure it was Cinder.”

Markus Suzak - I Am the Messenger

Here’s to finally reading another book by one of my favorite authors of all time. I had high expectation for this book and it met them. But in a weird way. It wasn’t what I expected it to be but it still became a favorite of mine.

This book is just bloody brilliant and beautiful in its own way and I just need everybody to read it and soak it in.

5 stars

“It’s not a big thing, but I guess it’s true–big things are often just small things that are noticed.”

Stephanie Perkins - Anna and the French Kiss.jpg

I think that this book was a case of “Read at the right time” syndrome. I read it in the beginning of last week around the time I was taking my hardest final and this book was just what I needed.

Cute, fluffy, funny and it has drama. It was the perfect read, and though it frustrated me A LOT at some points, I still really liked it.

4 stars

“For the two of us, home isn’t a place. It is a person. And we are finally home.”

I also reviewed :

Archer’s Voice Mia Sheridan

I started reading Attachments by Rainbow Rowell and I haven’t read in 3 days because of a couple reasons. First, I was swamped, I had my psychology final and that took a lot of memorization time and also because I’m not feeling it at the moment, so I’ll put it down, pick something else up and come back to it when I’m in the right mood.

This month, I started fiddling with graphics and they’re so much fun to make, I really loved it so I’ll go back and make some for my older posts once I’m officially on summer break.

Also, be on the look out in June, some exciting (for me at least hehe) and different things are going to be introduced and I cannot wait to share them with you and get your feedback on all that jazz.

TAG #12 : Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

Hello guys !

It seems like I’m in a provocative mood these days. It may be because of my upcoming exams making me extra bitchy or it may be because I’m awesome like that. So what better way to continue on that line of action than a little Unpopular Opinions Book Tag. But more seriously, I don’t want to offend anyone with my answers, if you feel like you don’t share the same opinions as me, we can either discuss it in the comments (I’d LOVE that) or you can ignore me, that’s fine too.

TAGS (4)

Oh, and apparently I suck so much at keeping up with my tags that the blogger who tagged me back in February has deleted their blog. Yeah, I’m that bad. *sigh*

Let’s just jump right into this:

As always, click on the cover to go to the Goodreads page.

1. A popular book or series you didn’t like

The Lux series. My feelings for this one are still fresh, as I just DNF book 2 Onyx yesterday. I just CAN’T GET INTO IT. I could get through Obsidian but the second lost everything that made the first bearable. My review for Onyx will come in a week or so.

2. A popular book that everyone hates that you love

I could think of nothing for this one. So, instead I’ll show you an underhyped book that I would want more people to read and I’ll go with a trilogy which is Razorland. I told you I would showcase that trilogy more so here it goes. Read it, you’re welcome.

3. A love triangle or OTP you didn’t like

Spoiler for The Infernal Devices ahead.

Oh boy! Wessa from The Infernal Devices. I LOVE Will and all, but Jem is my babe and I want him to be happy, so even though I’m not there yet, I’m not okay with the choice I know Tessa is going to make. I want to thank myself for reading the whole Mortal Instruments series before this one instead of alternating, because that spoiled me big time.

4. A popular genre you rarely reach for

Horror ? Yeah, definitely. It’s not that I don’t like it or that I get scared easily, far from that -Scary movies make me laugh really hard, weird I know, I don’t why that happens. It’s just that I never think to go out of my way to pick up a horror book.

5. A beloved character you didn’t like

Aristotle from Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secret of the Universe. Don’t kill me please, it’s just that he annoyed me and made up problems where there weren’t any which made him even more conflicted. He just could’ve saved himself the trouble. I’m not talking about the whole coming out thing, it’s the little things that I had issues with. (The fan art is to die for though!)

6. A popular author you can’t seem to get into

John Green. I LOVE him as a person though, he’s so genuine and funny and just awesome. But I can’t seem to get into his books, I don’t hate them but I don’t love them either. They’re just meh to me.

7. A popular book-trope you’re tired of seeing

HAHA. I wrote a whole post about that just yesterday and I had loads of fun making that list. So here’s my list of 12 bookish tropes that need to go away ASAP.

8. A popular series you have no interest in reading

The Mara Dyer trilogy. I know it is good, but everyone is saying that the ending is frustrating and I don’t want to go through the trouble of loving it just to end up pulling my hair out of my head.

9. A movie or Tv-show you prefer to the book

The Vampire Diaries. I’ve been watching the show for year, since it came out actually. But when I tried to pick the first book up I was horrified. I just absolutely hated it and didn’t get past the first book, luckily, I was just borrowing it from a friend.

I tag:

ANYONE who wants to do it. Because I feel like everyone has already done.

P.s: Click on the Fan art to be redirected to the original site.

That’s it until next time.

I’d love to know what you think of all of these. Share YOUR opinions is the comments.

Little Peek #4 : April 2016

Hello guys !

April has been a very stressful, swamped month for me, consequences: I only read 5 books this month which I’m not really impressed with but it doesn’t bother me much, I was adulting haha. A weird thing has been happening since the beginning of this year with the amount I read, it’s decreasing with exactly one book each month. I started the year with 8 books under my belt. It’s all good though, I’ll have plenty of time to read once I’m done with my exams. As usual, the titles are direct links to the Goodreads pages.

Oh yeah, and read until the end, I have an idea I wanted to run by you and see what you think of it.

Onto the books now:

Neil Gaiman - Neverwhere

This is the most interesting book I’ve ever read in my life. Some kind of twisted, funny, hair pulling urban fantasy. Very unpredictable. And very confusing too. But definitely worth the reading.

Here’s my full review.

3.5 stars

He had gone behind the world of metaphor & simile into the place of the things that are, and it was changing him.

This was a great sequel to Cinder, the series is getting better and better with each book as everyone has said to me and can’t wait to pick up Cress this month. I’m a big fan of these retellings and I think that the world building is on point. You can find out more about it here.

4 stars

“We met less than a week ago and in that time I’ve done nothing but lie and cheat and betray you. I know. But if you give me a chance…all I want is to protect you. To be near you. For as long as I’m able.”

Jandy Nelson - I'll Give You the Sun

OH MY GOD! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Okay I’ll stop here because this is getting ridiculous, but my love for this book is endless, I don’t know by what sorcery that happened, but it did and it became an all time favorite. Here, check out the review for more raving.

5 stars

“Meeting your soul mate is like walking into a house you’ve been in before – you will recognize the furniture, the pictures on the wall, the books on the shelves, the contents of drawers: You could find your way around in the dark if you had to.”

Remember how I said that I was disappointed with the first book in the trilogy? This sequel made all of that go away. It was amazing and I loved everything about it. The characters, the action, the romance. EVERYTHING. My review for it just went up yesterday.

4.5 stars

“We live and breathe words. …. It was books that made me feel that perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I with them. Reading your words, what you wrote, how you were lonely sometimes and afraid, but always brave; the way you saw the world, its colors and textures and sounds, I felt–I felt the way you thought, hoped, felt, dreamt. I felt I was dreaming and thinking and feeling with you. I dreamed what you dreamed, wanted what you wanted–and then I realized that truly I just wanted you.”

This book is all kinds of dark and tortured but also cute and steamy ! I am very conflicted with how I feel about this book. But it was a quick enjoyable read, even if it was kind of draining. My review for it is coming up next week.

3 stars

“Try to believe that maybe more light shines out of those who have the most cracks.”

This idea I wanted to have your opinions on. This past week I’ve been thinking about something, a lot of you guys don’t know much about Morocco, if anything at all. So I thought why not do a feature of some sort (monthly maybe) where each time I’ll showcase a city or an area from my beloved country, with maybe a local dish, and local traditions. I don’t know how it’ll be yet, I wanted to see first, if it’ll spark your interest and then think the details through. I’d love to hear you thoughts about it in the comments or even on Twitter if you’d like to chat!

Clockwork Prince

They say that time heals all wounds, that presumes the source of grief is finite.

(No spoilers)

If you’ve read my review of Clockwork Angel you know that I was a little disappointed, that’s the reason for me going into this book with pretty low expectations but this time this book blew me away. It exceeded everything I hoped over even when keeping my expectations at a low. This book felt like seeing an old friend after years and years of absence. The previous one didn’t feel like the SH world I know and love but this one was everything I wanted and more.

By now, you know how much I enjoy Clare’s writing (ok maybe not, but know you do), it is so full of life, fun and quick to read. She also writes some of the wittiest dialogs out there and I really appreciate that. Since this is a sequel, I don’t have much more to say about the writing and I don’t want to be repetitive. Oh, one more thing, you know how I love pointing out ridiculous sentences in books? haha. Here’s one for you:

“Black hair, blue eyes, graceful cheekbones, thick dark lashes, full mouth- he would have been pretty if he had not been so tall and so muscular.”

AS IF BEING TALL AND MUSCULAR IS A BAD THING NOW! I laughed so hard at this, I’m not even exaggerating right now.

Question: Do Shadowhunters see ghosts? That part really confused me!

Moving on. I can’t go into much detail about the plot because hello spoilers! All I can say is that the first half of the plot is more of an investigation which was really captivating and not at all boring which I was afraid would happen again. And the second half, LORD HAVE MERCY ON MY SOUL! It was so so thrilling and action packed. CC has a way of withholding the truth from you, leaving you wondering until she dumps it all at once, your heart racing and your mind blown. Those twists and turns, OH.MY.GOD. I never saw any of them coming (The major ones anyway) Am I that oblivious? No. I believe I am not, but, BUT SHE GOT ME. Also, characters wise, this was a lot more focused on Will, which was bitter sweet. On one hand, it was great getting to know the man behind the mask, but on the other hand I felt like Jem was overshadowed. And well, you know how I feel about Jem.

Will, oh Will! My heart broke for him for almost the whole damn book. I feel bad for previously hating the poor guy, he does what he does because he has to and now that I know I understand why he is the way he is. I think that Magnus put it best:

“There is a soul under all that bravado. And he is really alive, one of the most alive people I have ever met. When he feels something, it is as bright and sharp as lightning.”

afde87e42d2b5247256a1939f9b704cdEven though while getting to know Will, I learned to love him, Jem takes home the gold medal. He’s just so dreamy! Oh and aside of everything I already said about him, that guy can do seemlessly HOT things. Dang it! And he can get mad too, thank God for the temper, even if it is really hard to get him to that point, he’s not dull and I love him all the more. And I STILL ship him with Tessa, I’m sorry Will I love you but nah!

Last time I said I didn’t know what to think of Tessa yet, but now I know and I like her. She’s lovely, brave and smarter than I gave her credit for. She also learned to stand up to Will and give him a taste of his own medicine, which is always funny to read about. The more I knew about her past, the more questions it raised. Plus, the whole mystery aroud the extent of her power is really intriguing. I can’t wait to learn more about it. But. BUT. I can’t help but resaint her for what I know is coming.

I still love the side characters as much but this time, I want to highlight Sophie, she’s so spontaneous and outspoken, and I liked her development from book 1, she grew stronger and more confident. Other than her, Henry and Charlotte‘s heart to heart had me all swooning with cuteness. And let’s not forget about Jessamine, I hated her from her first appearance and I WAS RIGHT! YES!! That girl is so freaking self-centered, I can’t put up with her.

This book reminded of one of the many reasons I love historical fiction. The contrast between now and then. Let me give you an exemple: I’m sitting here cursing like a sailor while Tessa slips and says “unladylike” things. HAHA. HAHAHAHA.

To sum it up, I LOVED this book for its action, for its characters, and strangely enough, for its love triangle, I normally hate those but this one is so well done that it got me on bord from the beginning. And yeah! At the end I was screaming! “YAAAAS!” and at the same time “NOOOO!” because of the romance, if you read it PLEASE tell me so, I need someone to talk to about it all.

Little Peek #3 : March 2016

Hello guys !

I know this post is late *Internally scolding myself* but I have a perfectly understandable reason for it. The last three days were pretty eventful, we had an event in Uni. It was kind of a sport’s championship with football games, basketball games among other things, so I had some friends competing which was the ideal time for a fun little road trip. That’s what we did ! And I came back yesterday late at night which means, today id the earliest I’ve been able to write this post. (The other ones were pre-scheduled hehe !). Good news is we WON in football and girls’ 400m race. So YAY!

Another BIG YAY that currently has me jumping up and down with joy is this :

Wait. WHAAAAAAAT? Oh my god ! I know it might not seem like much but it is HUGE to me and I’m sooo happy I’ve gotten this far and it is all because of you guys ! And I’ll forever be grateful for this welcoming community.

Onto the actual wrap-up now. I’m not impressed with the amount I read this month. I read 6 books total. It is good, but not the best, I reviewed all of them but one though, so that’s great. Here are said books:

Ryan Graudin - (#1) Wolf by WolfI can’t begin to express how much I loved this book ! It is my favorite read of 2016 so far and I suspect it is going to stay that way for the rest of the year because it will be really hard to top.

First it takes place after WWII and we all know how I feel about THAT. Second, it is an alternate fiction answering the question : What if Hitler won? Third, it has one of the most kick-ass, independant, strong female characters I’ve ever read about.

Okay I’ll stop here, for more raving, here’s my Review.

5 stars

“There was something electric about the colors that exploded in the sky, reminding Yael that not everything was gray ashfall, yellowing weeds, withered blue hands, crimson rivers of blood… There was still beauty in the world. And it was worth fighting for.”

Cassandra Clare - (#1) Clockwork AngelThis book almost put me in a reading slump. It’s not that I didn’t like it or anything. It just took me almost 2 weeks to finish. It is a good book and all but it was slow for most of it, the pace didn’t pick up until th last quarter or so. I still enjoyed it.

I’ll read the sequel this month and I’m sure it will be way faster, because the things that went down at the end of this one were CRAY-CRAY. Meanwhile, here’s the review.

3.5 stars

“One must always be careful of books,” said Tessa, “and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”

11235712This was a strong start, to what I hope will be a wondeful series.

I loved everything about it despite the little predictability that lays at the end of it, I think that it lived up to the hype without exceeding it, which luckily leaves room for the rest of the series to progress and flourish into something even more amazing than this is.

Here’s my review for it, if you want an insight.

4 stars

“We have the ability to love each other, no matter our differences. To help each other, no matter our weaknesses.”

Jojo Moyes - Me Before YouMy oh my ! My heart, my soul and my eyes were on fire after finishing this.

No, just NO. Don’t give me hope of a happy ending like that to leave me in tears afterwards. It is too fucking CRUEL.

I loved every. single. thing. aboout this. The characters, the story, the face, the relationships, the authenticity etc…

Just go read it, for heaven’s sake. Before doing so, here’s the review.

4.5 stars

“Some mistakes… Just have greater consequences than others. But you don’t have to let the result of one mistake be the thing that defines you. You, Clark, have the choice not to let that happen.”

12578077Oh boy ! I had so many things to say about this book. Not all great. To be honest, the good things were like gems.

Okay I’m being a nasty person here haha. I know that a lot of people like this but it didn’t do it for me, not for a bit.

I must confess that the bitch in me had a LOT of fun writing this review. I guess she was inspired by all the ridiculousness that went down (I’m sorry if I offended anyone by the way).

2.5 stars

“But no matter where I went, what I was running from would still be with me—Kat. She wasn’t just back in the house, in that bed. She was with me now, inside me. And there was no outrunning that.”

Malala - I am Malala

This was such an eyes opening read. I obviously know about the things that go down in the Middle East and in Pakistan more particularly, but reading from the perspective of someone who lived under the Taliban’s savage ways is all the more striking.

I learned so much from this and I went through all kinds of emotions: Sadness, pity but mostly anger. What the fuck is wrong with those people doing whatever suits them and pretending to be “real muslims”? Just no.

I recommend this book to every single soul on earth. I already admired Malala before, but now, WOW ! I just reached a new level.

4 stars

“Once I had asked God for one or two extra inches in height, but instead he made me as tall as the sky, so high that I could not measure myself.”

Here’s a summary of this month’s post, other than the reviews:

Top 5 Wednesday #7 : Buzz Words !

Hello guys !T5W

So today is Wednesday, this means that it is time for me to do another T5W.  It is a weekly feature created By Lainey @ Gingerreadslainey with a different theme each week. For more information, you can check the Goodreads group.

This week’s theme is: BOOKS YOU DNF

So, I only did not finish one book in my life which was The Man who Wanted to be Happy by Laurent Gounelle. The reasons I don’t DNF books are mainly :

  1. I’m pretty good at picking up books I know I’ll enjoy
  2. I’m very patient with books even when I don’t like them
Since, this is nothing even close to a list, I chose to revisit a theme that was done before I joined the meme, which is : BUZZ WORDS
“A buzz word is a word that, when you hear it used to describe a book, you can’t help but go running to get said book.”
The Book Thief (Art: Rudy Steiner)
That period fascinates me so much. I could read about it endless amounts of times without ever getting tired or bored of it and that’s because so many things went down in that time and there are so many sides of the same stories that it is hardly ever the same thing.
A Darker Shade of Magic (Art: Victoria Ying)
I think this is a universal one. There’s just something about time travel that pulls me like a magnet. Whenever I hear about a book with some sort of time-traveling in it, I mark is as to-read in Goodreads. That might be the reason why that shelf is growing exponentially, Oups?
Fangirl (Art: ?)
Best-kind-of-love-stories you mean ? I love them so so so much, because if you ask me, those are the most realistic. We get to see and experience the different stages of the relationship from its very beginning, watching the characters get to know each other, fall in love with the little things as we fall in love along with them. Amazing experience.
The Lunar Chronicles (Art : Anailui)
It could be any kind of retelling. Of any fairytale that exists out there. You name it, I want it. I gotta have it. I just love them so much because I am a fairytale junky and getting to read my favorite ones over and over and over again in different timelines, different places, with different characters is just the best thing in the world.
24a04a6960519d44c35f66a130aeb19a.jpgThe Infernal Devices (Art: Smitth)
Main reason I fangirl about any book EVER. Haha. I’m a sucker for solid friendships but those between two boys make me swoooon *-*. It is just so endearing to see them care about each other so much and you can see it in their actions not necessarily in spoken words.

That’s it until next time.

What are your favorite Buzz words ?

Hope you enjoyed, write to you soon.

Clockwork Angel – Where I learnt to get my Expectations under Control

Cassandra Clare - (#1) Clockwork Angel.jpgTitle : Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1)

Clockwork angel

“Sometimes” Jem said, “our lives can change so fast that the change outpaces our minds and hearts. It’s those times, I think, when our lives have altered but we still long for the time before everything was altered – that is when we feel the greatest pain. I can tell you, though, from experience, you grow accustomed to it. You learn to live your new life, and you can’t imagine, or even really remember, how things were before.”

(No spoilers)

Let me start off by saying that I have never read a book about shape-shifting until this month, when I read two in a row.

Let’s come back to the book at hand. I was so excited about this trilogy for various reasons, from which I can list :

  2. I’ve heard only good about it, especially from reviewers that I trust.
  3. I absolutely loved The Mortal Instruments so YES for prequel.
That being said, I liked it ! But not as much as I wanted to which was a little disappointing. I am the one to blame for that, I think I set my expectations too high. I’m making a mental note not to do that anymore.
Starting on a positive note, I really loved the writing. The way it shifts between TMI and TID to suit the era better is impressive. It is simple, understandable but you can feel that time’s empreinte in the choice of words. But for the major part of the book, the pace is really slow which got me bored and didn’t keep me coming back for more (I think that was the main reason I took so long to finish it). Then at around 70% in, shit started going down really fast and that part I finished in one sitting. By the end, I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what comes next, THAT TWIST THOUGH, DAMN YOU MAGISTER ! But that sadly didn’t make up for the fact that nothing happened in the bigger chunk of the book.
One thing that was weird to me at first, is that I got the same feeling as in the beginning of City of bones with the whole “Girl is not who she thought she was and the only family member she has left is kidnapped” but as the storyline developed that feeling went away. On the subject of comparing the 2 series, I thought this one was slightly darker with the whole thing about slaughtering humans, the gambling and the brodels which to be honest I really liked.
Onto the characters now. Tessa Gray, the main character, I don’t know what to think of yet. Sometimes I really liked her, some other times, I thought she was selfish and couldn’t understand the reasoning behind her decisions. The mystery around her identity was intriguing at first, but at some point in the book I lost interest and I couldn’t care less about who she was but then as I closed the book it had sucked me back in again.
parabatai___heronstairs_by_taratjah-d7n71o3.jpgWill Herondale ! Oh dear God, Will ! I hate him so much. Yep. I said it. That guy is just despicable. Self-absorbed, arrogant and just RUDE. Who does he think he is ? And yes, I get the whole tortured soul thing, where he acts like he doesn’t care but deep down he’s a good guy who wants to drive people away to avoid hurting them. But no, Just NO ! I can’t deal with him right now.
Jem Carstairs is a sweetheart. I truly fell in love with him. So gentle and caring,  and wise most of the time. Which means that he is the one I ship Tessa with even though I know that’s not going to happen. For now, that is. He just deserves to be happy and I want to hug him and tell him that everything will be alright. He also has the best quotable lines.
As for the side characters, I pretty much like them all with a soft spot for Henry. The only one that I really disliked is Jessamine because as much as Shadowhunters are advanced when it comes to the role of women, she is a setback with the whole I am a lady, I want to stay at home and make babies. Ugh.
Even despising Will the way I do, I can’t help but admire his relationship with Jem. The bromance is real guys. And it makes me fangirl soooooooo much *-*. The way they have each other’s backs no matter what, truly loving each other, and I only tolerate Will when he’s alone with Jem because he lets his guard down and softens. Proof :
“He sometimes then thought about what he would do afterward, but he couldn’t imagine it, any more than he could look back and remember his life before he had come to the institute. Neither bore thinking about for very long.”
